Okinawa spinach [Gynura crepioides] is not a spinach at all, but a nutritious perennial leafy green. The tops of the leaves are bright green with a purple underside. Also called Cholesterol spinach by Asian people. In tropical climates it requires little, if any, maintenance other than pruning (harvesting) and will produce abundant greens year-round, for years on end.
Longevity Spinach [Gynura procumbens] Its name implies that it is a variety of spinach. It’s actually a leafy vegetable that was relatively unknown in the U.S. until recent years. Gynura is considered a natural treatment for diabetes. Research shows that Gynura lowers blood sugar levels. It can also help lower levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. Gynura may prevent and treat hypertension by increasing nitric oxide production in the blood. It is a perennial in warmer weather.
